Have you heard of oil cleansing? Say what? Yes, cleansing your face with oil. You heard me. Sounds crazy doesn’t it? For so long in the beauty industry we have heard these two words, oil free. If you really think about it, oil free is the same as fat free in the nutrition industry. Both have formally been debunked. For so long, oil was not considered your friend unless you screamed from the rooftops, “bring on the breakouts!”
Fact or fiction: we all seek a clear, flawless complexion? FACT!
We will go to the depths of the earth and our wallets to have skin envy amongst our friends and even our foes. Literally, each day the average woman applies more than 200 chemicals to her skin. Thankfully, we are becoming smarter and more educated on the importance of what we put on our skin is just as important as what we put into our mouths. To completely take care of our bodies we need to be focused on the internal and external.
The TRUTH...our skin needs oil. Our skin produces sebum oil to naturally balance pH levels, retain moisture and act as a barrier for the largest organ in our bodies...our skin. Oil cleansing is suitable for every skin type. Whether you have combination, oily, dry, sensitive, mature, or acne prone skin; oil cleansing is for you. With oil cleansing, we are protecting the natural lipid layer of our skin where the good bacteria lives in the microbiome of our skin.
Oil Cleansing 101: The basics of “like dissolves like” meaning “oil dissolves oil”
-
Lifts excess sebum
-
Cleanses clogged pores
-
Removes dead skin cells, pollutants and makeup
Oil Cleansing How To:
-
Simply massage oil into dry face using your fingertips in a gentle, circular motion
-
Place warm washcloth on face and hold for 1-2 minutes to penetrate skin and remove when cool
-
Gently wipe off excess oil and pat dry
If you are using the cleansing oil method as a 2 in 1, makeup remover and face cleanser, then follow these steps twice.
Oil cleansing balances your skin and locks in hydration and is excellent to do in the evenings. If your skin retains enough moisture, then there is no need to add more to it. Feel free to follow with a toner and face serum if needed. Personally, I like to oil cleanse in the p.m. and rinse with cool water in the a.m. and follow with the mac + mitchell oil crush facial toner and serum.
Happy Oiling! You will have an oil crush once you start!
Love yourself. Love hard.
